The Armor of God

Anyone who has been a Christian for any length of time knows that there are unseen forces that work to try to destroy you as a Christian. Ephesians 6:11 says: ”Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”

This is why it is so important for the Christian to STAND FIRM against the powers that attack Christians. Sometimes the attacks are direct and other times it is subtle. Most of the time these attacks come upon the Christian’s character or reputation, other times it might be temptations or attitudes.

Character and Reputation:

1 Peter 2:12 Live such good lives…that though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God.

Romans 1:17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

Proverbs 3:1,2 My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this…your life will be satisfying.

Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Temptations and attitudes:

Ephesians 1:13 You also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth; the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

Remember that you are saved not because of good deeds, (Eph. 2:9) but because of His mercy. We are a new creation in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17) , no longer living for selfish purposes but living for the Lord. Know that persecutions will come, and be faithful and STAND FIRM in the Faith. Remember that God will always be with you. (Joshua 1:9)

“ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Ephesians 6:10-18

Finally be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might, Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand Firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod your FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE. In addition to all, take up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayers and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.
